Too Long in the light

Is a second-world fantasy novel, complete at 140,000 words that explores themes of Love, Loss, Power, and coming of age. With a backdrop of an Inter-dimensional war set in a country not-unlike 14th-century Ireland, Too Long in the Light combines the grittiness of Joe Abercrombie’s First Law trilogy with the personal narrative of Rothfuss’ Kingkiller Chronicles.

Worlds Colliding.

The Shadowlands, The Kingdom Before, Álfheimr: all names for Faerieland, the hidden realm where the metaphysical takes form. Where magic roams unbridled and free on the wind — or, at least, it used to. Our worlds are separate for a reason. The Fae are a proud race, quick to anger and slow to mercy. When a king steals a piece of their magic, looses it in the mortal world, and weakens the very fabric of reality, he disturbs beings with the power of ancient gods. With magic comes madness.

The Ironthroats

When the high priest Orren of the Ironthroat Order of Thelo and the King Raster of Riddium perform a secret ritual to steal magic from the gods of Outer Faerie and bring it back into the mortal world, they succeed. Kind of. Yes, magic is back and at the command of select mortals, but Orren, who wants the Riddian crown for himself, betrays Raster and his queen. During the ritual, he allows the gods to work their influence on his rival’s minds to corrupt them and leave their kingdom vulnerable. Now, all Andereth has to do is wait for the gods’ will to take hold. Little does he know that spilling their blood, tainted with the will of the gods, will rend the veil between the mortal world and Faerie.

Years later, one of Orren’s Ironthroat priests creeps through the Bloody Keep to assassinate Raster, his wife, and children. When he kills the queen but fails to kill Raster, Riddium plunges into war with Andereth, the home of the Ironthroats. However, the veil is only paper thin, and the gods want their power back.
